She was appointed to the court in 2001 by Parris Glendening, a Democrat. Her current term expires in 2012.
Battaglia was born in Buffalo, New York. She received her degree in International Relations in 1967 from American University She earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1974 and was admitted to the bar that same year.
Legal Career
Since 2001 she has been an associate judge on the Maryland Court of Appeals, the state's highest appellate court. Her record of public service spans three decades, from an Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Maryland, to positions within the U.S. Department of Justice and Office of the Attorney General, before becoming U.S. Attorney, District of Maryland, between 1993 and 2001.[1]
