Founded in 1985, the Moriah Fund is one of four foundations that funds the grants of the Justice at Stake Foundation.

History

The Moriah Fund was established by Robert and Clarence Efroymson in 1985. Their philosophy of giving was rooted in Jewish values. The Fund offers grants in these areas:

  • Promoting Civil Rights, Social Justice and Democracy in Israel
  • Protecting and advancing human rights
  • Reducing Poverty and Empowering Low Income Families in Washington, DC
  • Advancing Women’s Human Rights and Sexual and Reproductive Health
  • Promoting Human Rights and Civil Society in Guatemala
  • Fostering Equitable and Sustainable International Development and Trade

Mission

In accordance with Jewish values, the mission of the Moriah Fund works for the most disadvantaged as well as for the well-being and continuation of the Jewish people. The grantmaking program seeks to promote human rights and democracy, help the disadvantage gain self-sufficiency, and promote women's rights and reproductive health. Moriah focuses on areas that receive "inadequate government funds, or that leverage public and private support through advocacy."[1]
